Cycling South Africa’s new online community platform is gaining momentum since its inception in June this year. Over 300 members have signed up to stay abreast with current cycling news, generating over 5000 visits to the site, and starting to add their own content.
WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
The community platform offers various “streams”, which are categorised per province, cycling discipline, cycling topics of interest, and cycling teams. Content is uploaded and shared across the relevant streams. As an avid cyclist, you will be able to specifically select what type of news you would like to read, or view. This will then be the contents of your personal email from Cycling SA every week.
WHY AN ONLINE SOCIAL PLATFORM
There is a lot of cycling news being communicated by the National Federation to its members. Some members may only be interested in one particular aspect of cycling, such as Track cycling. In this way, those members can select the “Track cycling” stream to only view content that is of interest to them.
Furthermore, members can also post their own content. The online community platform provides the opportunity to share experiences of a great new trail that you’ve discovered, with the added benefit of geo-tagging the location for other members to enjoy the experience too.
It also highlights areas of safety concern. If you’ve had an unfortunate experience on your bike, let fellow members know so that they can be aware too. And geo-tag the location to highlight the precise location, soon enough we will be able to highlight high risk areas – either from a road safety point of view or a general security risk aspect.
