Khayelitsha cycling academy battles the odds, via eNCA

KHAYELITSHA - Bonga Ngqobane, owner of a cycling academy in Cape Town, is battling the odds to educate the Khayelitsha community about the sport.

He has discovered that it requires plenty of financial backing and moral support for it to become a success.

Ngqobane started the Bonga Cycling Academy aiming to raise funds for underprivileged schoolchildren from the Eastern Cape.

But he says: The people in the township don’t understand cycling. Even the corporates in the township do not know what cycling is so they don’t  look to invest in it.”

Nevertheless, he remains undeterred and recently embarked on a 1,000km Munga mountain bike race, from Bloemfontein to Cape Town, in an attempt to raise funds.
