The annual Oudtshoorn Youth Festival will welcome teams of young cyclists from around the country once again as they return to the Southern Cape for mountain bike and road cycling events from 30 June to 3 July 2014.
With years of experience in hosting the Youth Festival, the organisers continue to put on a first class event for the young school-going cyclists, but each year rings slight changes to the format.
The objective of the youth events is for riders to participate as a team, and a strong emphasis is placed on team and mass participation rather than an individual’s abilities. All events are structured in such a way that points will be awarded to every participant. The teams are made up from the various provinces that they represent.
Importantly, the annual Oudtshoorn Youth Festival assists provinces with their Transformation and Development goals.
Riders with disabilities are encouraged to participate, and do so in amongst the mainstream cycling events.
Cyclists will have the opportunity to compete in the road cycling and mountain biking disciplines, such as the Team Time Trial, Criterium, Road Race, cross-country mountain biking (XCO) and mountain bike marathon (XCM), with the distances and number of laps being set according to the various age categories.
This event will also be used by Western Cape to select a Western Cape team for the Bloemfontein Youth Event later this year. It is important for riders from Boland, WP, West Coast and SWD to attend this event to enable them to be selected for the team.
