South African National Junior Track Cycling Camp
3-8 July 2018 – Bellville Velodrome
The 2018 South African National Junior Track Cycling Camp will be held at the Bellville Velodrome from Tuesday 3 to Sunday 8 July.
The National Track Training Camp is available to all Under 17 riders (racing ages 15 and 16), and junior riders (racing ages 17 and 18), seeking to garner knowledge and improve on their performance. The training camp will also serve a Talent Identification purpose for possible National Team representation for the African Continental Track Cycling Championships in 2019 and 2020.
This is a comprehensive training camp, where both Sprint and Endurance disciplines will be addressed. All riders will be required to participate in every session, and the days will be long and challenging. During the middle of the training camp, and again at the end of the training camp, riders will be offered attempts at hitting the National Time Standards. These Time Standards have been set as qualification purposes for junior riders wanting to make the National Team for Junior World Championships.
Currently only Courtney Smith and Rickardo Broxham have qualified to attend the Junior World Track Cycling Championships to be held in Aigle, Switzerland in August. So there is still time to add riders to the roster, should they qualify.
The camp is being organised and coached by Junior High Performance Track Cycling Manager, Kurt Begemann.
