This event is one of three National Team Selection Events for junior riders wanting to make the South African National Track Cycling Team, to compete at the World Junior Track Cycling Championships, in Switzerland (August 2018). It will be held over two sessions at the Bellville Velodrome on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 March. The junior riders will compete in two separate traditional style Omniums to determine the best Sprint and best Endurance riders. They will also target individual times and team times, set to qualify them as competitive candidates to compete in Switzerland.

Youth riders will compete on Friday night only, in a traditional Omnium tournament. The under-17 riders will do the same, but will also have the opportunity on Saturday to compete in a Team Competition with events such as the Team Sprint and Team Pursuit. This will allow them a point of reference against Junior Teams and the standards they may try to achieve when they move up into that category in future years.

Like the u17 riders, the Masters will also compete in a Traditional Omnium tournament, over the two days, and also have the opportunity to lay down times in the team events. The final event of the two-day competition will be the exciting Madison event, where Masters and Junior Teams, will compete together in the fast paced 25km race. Experienced Masters Madison riders are encouraged to polish their skills and turn out to aid the young riders in hosting a good quality field that may reflect similarly to what they could experience, overseas.

This event specifically targets the Youth, Junior and Masters categories only. These groups are encouraged to turn out and race an event specifically catering to them.
