Three of South Africa’s top track cyclists are finalising their preparations at the National Velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, for the start of the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, taking place from 18-22 February.
The team will have representation in the sprint and endurance disciplines, with Eugene Soule and Annerine Wenhold leading the sprint charge, and Maroesjka Matthee tackling the endurance events.
Soule races in the elite category for the first time this year from the Junior category last year, and has shown great potential in events like the 1000m TT, in which he will be participating at Worlds.
Wenhold, a stalwart in track cycling and coach of the junior track team, will be competing in the 500m TT event.
Multiple national champion, Matthee, will be competing in the 3000m Individual Pursuit and the 7.5km Scratch events. She showed excellent form last week when she broke the long-standing Western Province Pursuit record.
The South African team will be in the capable hands of Frenchman Franco Cannella, who will serve as the team manager for the duration of the event.
