Current African Continental Keirin Champion Jean Spies (29) won the Keirin at the UCI-accredited GP Framar, which took place in Prague, Czech Republic, from 8-9 September. This race, as with all the other races that Jean has tackled in Europe since June, was of the utmost importance as he chisels away at earning UCI points in order to qualify for the UCI World Cups starting in October for the 2018-2019 season.

Junior Track talent in the spotlight at cycling camp

Junior track racing talent came into the spotlight at a recent training camp that was held during the school holidays at the Bellville Velodrome in Western Cape from 3-8 July 2018. Serving to seek out and identify talent in track racing environment, the SA Cycling Junior National Track Cycling Camp also served as a Development Camp for under-17 and Junior level riders who have the intent of representing their country at future international tournaments.

The 2018 South African National Junior Track Cycling Camp will be held at the Bellville Velodrome from Tuesday 3 to Sunday 8 July. The Camp is available to all u17 riders (racing ages 15 and 16), and junior riders (racing ages 17 and 18) seeking to garner knowledge and improve on their performance, while also serving a Talent Identification purpose for possible National Team representation for the African Continental Track Cycling Championships in 2019 and 2020.

Youth, Junior and Masters Time Standards Grand Prix 2018

This event is one of three National Team Selection Events for junior riders wanting to make the South African National Track Cycling Team, to compete at the World Junior Track Cycling Championships, in Switzerland (August 2018). It will be held over two sessions at the Bellville Velodrome on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 March. The junior riders will compete in two separate traditional style Omniums to determine the best Sprint and best Endurance riders. They will also target individual times and team times, set to qualify them as competitive candidates to compete in Switzerland.
