The use of disc brakes in Cycling SA road events

In line with the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) stance on the use of disc brakes during domestic road races, Cycling South Africa’s Technical Commission reiterates our adherence to the regulations in place by the world governing body.

The UCI has restarted their wide scale testing of disc brakes in the professional peloton to monitor certain aspects with a greater view to introducing it in all levels of the sport. However, during this testing phase, the current rules remain in place viz; disc brakes are banned in all domestic road and closed circuit racing.

Cycling South Africa continues to monitor the progress of these developments at an international level. Cycling South Africa is not in a position to change those regulations until
permitted to do so by the UCI.
