After having Nolan Hoffman as a guest rider and eventual winner of the 2015 edition of the Stellenbosch cycle tour ( Formally known as the Burger) Alfabodyworks had some huge expectations on their young riders shoulders and they never disappointed.
With the experience of Jayde Julius the team had a simple plan. Put 3 riders in any break that was to go and our sprinters were to just get a soft ride to the ride. Jayde instructed our young riders to firstly attack and after realising that the bunch was chasing everybody down he then instructed to sit on the front and pace. This shocked the big teams as our young men stuck doggedly to their task. With 2 km to go Nicol Cartens put in a huge dig off the front but was soon caught by the sprinters Teams most notably Giant who still had former Junior world champion Bernard Esterhuizen in the bunch.
It would have had to take a brave man betting against Esterhuizen winning the sprint and he dually obliged with our Brandon Christians and Jayde Julius taking 2nd and 4th respectively which was the ultimate goal of the Team.
It has been quite a year for this team of young riders with a host of top ten finishers in the WP League, a 4th place by Hans Heuer at the Knysna cycle tour, the team winning the Surval Stof en Teer in Oudtshoorn, 2nd place at the DC and Joshua francis venturing into KZN and finishing 3rd overall at the Toti 69er and in the process winning the U23 prize and a 3rd overall at the Ladysmith cycle Challenge.
For a young a young team that nobody took serious at the beginning of the year Alfabodyworks are now a force to be reckoned with and respected by all the big teams.
