Cycling South Africa’s Track Commission has great pleasure in announcing that the following riders have been selected to represent South Africa at the UCI Juniors Track World Championships in Invercargill, New Zealand from 22nd to 26th August 2012.
Dirkie Nel (Gauteng)
Jac Johan Steyn (Gauteng)
Jevandre Pauls (Eastern Cape)
Kellan Gouveris (Eastern Cape)
Daniel Stroebel (Free State)
Johan de Bod (Western Cape)
These young men will be taking on the world’s best under-19 track cyclists from more than 20 countries. The coaches and selectors have huge faith in the Track Endurance Team that has been selected this year, and firmly believe that all candidates are an integral part of Cycling SA’s 2016 and 2020 Olympic visions.
A major goal this year is for the Junior Track Team Pursuit Team to break and set a new South African Elite record, which is within their grasp. In line with Cycling South Africa’s Long Term Participant Development program and 2020 vision, this team will be laying the foundation to a solid performance by a South African Team Pursuit Team at the Olympics in years to come.
The team will depart on approximately 27th July in order to attend a training camp that will be held in Perth, Australia and is seen as extremely important in the build-up, not only to a solid performance at this year’s Junior Worlds, but also to provide a foundation for next year’s Junior Worlds as well as future international competitions for this team of youngsters.
Congratulations on your selection and we wish you every success.
