3 Towers Stage Race gives back to mountain biking

In celebration of the ninth edition of the 3 Towers Stage Race, the event organisers have expressed that they would like to give back to the sport of mountain biking by way of supporting the professional mountain bike marathon riders that participate in their race each year. 3 Towers Stage Race has contributed towards the funding of the South African National Mountain bike Marathon Team who will be traveling to the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Singen, Germany, from 24-25 June.

3 Towers kindly offered a cash sponsorship to assist the National Team with a portion of their expenses. The team consists of Nico Bell, Max Knox, Philip Buys, Sithembiso Masanga, Robyn de Groot and Amy McDougall.

The SA National MTB Marathon Team will take to the tracks in the Hegau countryside of Germany, just north of the German/Swiss border. The Elite men will be riding 98-kilometres and Elite Women 80-kilometres.

Mark Meyer, 3 Towers Stage Race event organiser, said: “Without our pro riders participating at these prestigious events on the international stage, they cannot benchmark themselves against the world’s best. We’ve seen some amazing talent amongst our riders and the world needs to see them too.”

3 Towers Stage Race has always believed in the importance of having as many professional riders at their event as possible, bringing even more energy and excitement to the racing. “Our top riders have shown that they can compete against the world’s best but we need to give them more exposure. 3 Towers wishes the SA Team the best of luck in Germany,” said Meyer.

Meyer also added: “Although 3 Towers Stage Race is not covering the entire cost of the trip, we hope it may motivate others to come forward and support our local SA heroes.”
