Second Downhill National at Jonkershoek this weekend

The fourth round of the Cape Gravity Series will double as the second round of the SA National DHI Cup Series taking place at Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in the Western Cape on Sunday 28 May.

Fires in the Western Cape at the beginning of the year caused much chaos and destroyed most of the initial track at Cascade Country Manor Estate. The decision was then made to change the venue of the event, and race organisers expressed how grateful they were to be able to utilise the stunning Jonkershoek Trails.

The reserve is home to the Jonkershoek Montains and some of the Jonkershoek Valley, very close to Stellenbosch. The mountains and reserve are perfect for those who enjoy hiking as well.

Event organiser Riaan Du Preez mentioned that the track will absolutely be a challenge for the riders, and if there is a lot of rain they (the riders) will have their work cut out for them.

With the changing of the seasons and Autumn progressing swiftly into Winter, it isn’t completely wrong to predict some rainfall in the Western Cape this coming weekend.

Jonkershoek is hot in summer, and cold and wet in winter. Visitors in the colder months may even see snow dusting the higher mountain peaks. Hikers should note that weather conditions can change rapidly.

Registration and late entries will take place on Saturday. Late entries will be accepted with a nominal charge of R50. NO late entries will be accepted on Sunday. Saturday will be assigned to official practice. Race entry will include access into and use of the Jonkershoek Trails for the duration of the weekend.
