Last chance to pre-enter third XCO National

The penultimate round of the 2017 SA National MTB Cup Series will be hosted in Bloemfontein at the Happy Valley Conservancy on Saturday 6 May. This round also forms part of the UCI Junior World Series. Entries are open and close at midnight tonight.

The UCI Category 1 event will see some of the country’s top contenders battle it out for valuable UCI points, which ultimately improves their rider rankings. The Junior riders will also get a chance to compete for their own points which contribute towards their overall UCI Junior World Series rankings.

Race organisers are also pleased to see the amount of entries from neighbouring countries, with Namibia’s entry majority coming from the younger categories – 10 riders alone in the Nippers and Sprogs categories. Lesotho’s Sufferfest Team will also be heading to Bloemfontein to compete, as well as South Africa’s top contenders in all the categories, particularly the Elites before they embark on their international campaigns.

The third round of the National XCO Series will provide a great opportunity for the Elite riders to have one last race meeting before they head off to Mauritius for the African Continental Championships the following weekend, immediately followed by the opening two rounds of the 2017 UCI MTB World Cup Series in Czech Republic and Germany on 21st and 28th May respectively.

The 2017 course will still be very similar to that of 2016, but now with a 100-metre singletrack climb on the last part of the course. There have also been upgrades to the pump track and the Grey’t Drop sections of the course. The track is five kilometres in length, with a 170-metre vertical ascent. There will be plenty of overtaking opportunities in the hand built single track, and two challenging climbs of 660m and 350m. The Tech/Feed Zones will be at the Start/Finish and Rock Garden Descent areas of the course.

There will be refreshments available to purchase at the venue. The entertainment area at the start/finish spot will air live streaming of the event. The event can also be viewed via live streaming on Streamit360.tv.

Online entries are open, and riders can enter here: https://cyclingsa-events.co.za/app/. Pre-entries close on Tuesday 2 May. For more information, visit: https://www.cyclingsa.com/2017-sa- mtb-cup- series/.
