Gerrit Pfahl, newly appointed Road Director for Cycling South Africa

Announcing Gerrit Pfahl, our newly appointed Road Director for Cycling South Africa!

Gerrit embarked on his cycling journey back in 2017 and, within just three weeks of training, he participated in his inaugural road race. His love for the open road grew, leading him to partake in numerous road events over the years.

On weekdays, Gerrit can be found at the office, where he works as a Structural Draughtsman. His primary focus lies in Road Cycling, occasionally venturing into Gravel Cycling. He revels in the multifaceted nature of road racing events and holds a racing license in the vet 30-39 category, representing a local Vets Team.

In 2019, Gerrit became a proud member of his local cycling club, swiftly ascending to the position of Vice Chairman. His dedication did not stop there; he was also invited to join the District of Sedibeng Cycling Committee. When the position of Regional Road Commissioner became vacant, Gerrit stepped up and assumed the role.

The year 2021 marked a significant milestone in Gerrit’s journey when he was nominated and subsequently appointed as the Regional Road Commissioner. He wasted no time and immediately began orchestrating the successful Gauteng Road Championships, held in the southern region of Gauteng.

In 2022, Gerrit’s commitment to the sport led to his appointment as the Gauteng Road Commissioner. He played a pivotal role in organizing yet another prosperous Gauteng Championships. Although Gauteng vied for the opportunity to host the SA Youth Road Championships in 2023, Eastern Cape secured the bid.

Currently holding the position of Gauteng Road Commissioner, Gerrit is collaborating with a local event organizer to establish a Crit Series. Their primary focus is nurturing the development of young talent and attracting the youth to road racing. Gerrit strongly believes that this is the key to shaping the future of cycling.

As a devoted father to a young boy, Gerrit is passionate about ensuring the longevity of road cycling for the generations to come. His involvement in the road commission allows him to actively contribute to the sport’s future. He strives to guarantee that future aspiring cyclists will have equal or even better opportunities than those before them.

We extend our best wishes to Gerrit as he embarks on his new role. For any inquiries related to road cycling, please don’t hesitate to contact Gerrit via email at road@cyclingsa.com.

End.
