Cycling South Africa Announces Exciting Routes for the 2025 National Road Championships

Following the success of the 2024 championships, Cycling South Africa is excited to unveil the dates and route details for the 2025 South African Road and Time Trial Championships. This highly anticipated event will be held, in partnership with the Midvaal Municipality, at the family-friendly Café du Cirque venue. Riders and spectators alike can look forward to an exceptional atmosphere, complete with delicious food, refreshing drinks, and a play area to keep young visitors entertained.

While the routes will closely resemble last year’s layout, slight modifications have been made to enhance the racing experience. One of the significant changes is the adjustment to the entry and exit points within the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. Riders will now enter through the north gate and exit through the south gate—a change from 2024, where both entry and exit points were at the south gate.

The road race will take participants through the stunning and challenging Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve during the first half, followed by the iconic John Bosco loops in an anticlockwise direction. *Loop refers to John Bosco Loop. Route refers to the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve route. This course promises riveting action, with early climbs favouring climbers and strategic opportunities for strong riders to close gaps during the loops. Additionally, more age categories will now ride through the reserve, ensuring a championship-worthy challenge for every competitor.

The time trial course remains unchanged from 2024, featuring a straightforward yet demanding out-and-back route. *Time Trial start time confirmation will be communicated the day before the event. All road races start times are provisional.

Road Race Route

Starting at Café du Cirque on Springbok Road, the route leads riders through picturesque Midvaal roads, incorporating the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve and culminating in loops around the John Bosco area. Each category will complete the required laps depending on the distance, ensuring an exciting spectacle for all involved.

Event Schedule:

Time Trial: 6-7 February 2025

• Categories will complete distances between 15 km and 41 km, showcasing South Africa’s top time trialists on a competitive course.

Road Race: 8-9 February 2025

• Distances range from 44 km to 177 km, with detailed breakdowns per category.
• Key highlights include the U/23 and Elite Men’s race covering 177 km and multiple age categories tackling the Suikerbosrand terrain.
