After an investigation by Cycling South Africa’s Events and Safety Commission in response to a complaint received from Mr. Saayman, it was concluded that the 2014 TransBaviaans event took place without the official sanctioning of Cycling South Africa.
The investigation report into Mr van Staden’s accident during the TransBaviaans compiled by Safety and Security Chairman, Mr Craig Proctor-Parker, was tabled at Cycling SA’s Management Committee meeting held on 9 October 2014.
The Management Committee accepted the report and the seven recommendations put forward in the findings. The one issue that was reported back on immediately was that the event was confirmed as not being a Cycling South Africa sanctioned event as the event organiser had not complied with specific requirements.
To this extent, the event organiser was formally notified hereof through appropriate channels. Likewise, all riders are notified hereof through this notification on our website.
On this basis, efforts are underway to identify the riders that purchased day licences and appropriate remedial measures will be undertaken to have them notified and reimbursed.
