CyclingSA is excited to announce that together with the team at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), we have established a blueprint for cycling mass participation single day and stage events to resume under COVID-19 restrictions.
“We have worked closely with the DSAC for the past couple of weeks to establish a way forward and on behalf of CyclingSA, I want to thank the teams of the Absa Cape Epic, Cape Town Cycle Tour and the 947 Ride Joburg for their invaluable input and collaboration working to get these blueprints approved, and to extend the appreciation of the South African cycling community.
“A blueprint has been established with the help of these three major events that has not only allowed for their own events to take place, but also for all CyclingSA sanctioned mass participation events to start again.
“All events will require either COVID-19 vaccination or testing status to participate, but this is the new normal until we see the end of the pandemic.” ~ Ciska Austin, President of CyclingSA.
This blueprint has been approved by DSAC as cycling is considered a low risk sport as it takes place outdoors and is not confined to stadiums. As the regulations currently state, no spectators will be allowed at any time. All events will be subjected to access control and will be subject to checks from government on the day.
Each level of event will have to meet certain requirements to be approved and sanctioned by CyclingSA, but we believe these requirements can be met.
Final input was received from government yesterday, and CyclingSA will make the approved documents available during the course of next week.
Be sure to check the social media platforms of the events to get further details.
