The CyclingSA Track commission has taken the hard decision to cancel the 2021 National Track Championships scheduled to take place from 23- 26 September 2021 at the Bellville Velodrome.
Sponsorships are essential to sporting events, and the COVID pandemic has placed the sporting industry under immense pressure. Due to current financial pressures, the event budget does not allow for the National Championships to be executed at the level required by CyclingSA. Added to this, the change in the school terms have resulted in the Championship dates falling in the middle of exams which will exclude the younger entrants and reduce participation levels. For this reason, hosting the SA National Track Championship event will be unfair and not in the best interest of the sport.
There have been extensive discussions with all relevant stakeholders to find additional sponsors and alternate dates for the Championships, but this has not been possible. Therefore, the Track Commission has decided to focus all efforts on hosting a successful 2022 event.
