Dylan Eggar, Manqoba Madida, Brandon Pratt and Alex Limberg are the four Elite BMX racers that will be representing South Africa at the 2018 African Continental Championships in Cairo, Egypt, from 9-10 November.
The AFCON Champs offers maximum UCI points up for grabs as the BMX community has entered the Olympic qualification cycle for Tokyo 2020, which started in September. This year, the riders eligible to compete has changed and only Elite riders can participate.
Riders will tackle the purpose-built track in Future City, located in Cairo, where the north Africans are preparing for the disciplines of BMX racing!
Thomas Alier, a UCI Coach at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, has been assisting with the grassroots establishment and training of Egyptian BMX riders, with the intent of entering Egyptian riders into the event.
One week prior to the event will be a Training Camp, which will serve as a prelude to the racing action. Multiple champion and BMX coach Tyrone Johns is currently in Egypt in preparation for the training camp, which Alex Limberg will be attending.
We wish our riders the best of luck!
