O’Keeffe 6th in BMX season opener, Florida (USA)

South African BMX racer Teagan O’Keeffe took part in her first UCI race of the 2014 season, which kicked off at the Gator Nationals in Oldsmar, Florida (USA) at the weekend.

O’Keeffe was happy with her sixth-place result, as she had set her goal on fifth place and was pleased to be so close to her goal.

“Training during my off-season went really well for me,” said O’Keeffe. “I was healthy and I didn't have any injuries to contend with so I could just put in the hard work. There are just a few more things to work on, but I am feeling a lot stronger and more determined than ever!”

O’Keeffe enjoyed the Oldsmar BMX track, due to it being a super smooth and flowing track, making it fun to race on. “I love it because there is always good action on this type of track,” she said.

With all the usual contenders on the start gate, O’Keeffe was optimistic racing against the “best of the best”. “Racing the Olympic champion (Colombian Mariana Pajón) is never easy,” continued O’Keeffe. “But I learn a lot and it pushes me to be as fast as her one day!”
