UCI medal for Hoffman in Mexico

South African track cycling star Nolan Hoffman claimed a bronze medal in the 15km Scratch race at the “warm-up” UCI track cycling race, Copa Internaçional de Pista, in Mexico at the weekend. The event preceded Round 2 of the UCI Track World Cup Series, also taking place in Mexico, in Aguascalientes, from 5-7 December 2013.

The Team Abantu sprinter said that it was a tough battle competing against teams of 3-4 riders from countries such as Italy and Argentina, while Mexico fielded an 8-man line-up. Hoffman also competed in the 30km Points race, where he finished in 9th place.

Hoffman (28) and Olympian Bernard Esterhuizen (21) will both be competing at the Track World Cup in Aguascalientes from Thursday 5 December. Hoffman will compete in the Scratch and Points races, which are endurance disciplines, while Esterhuizen will compete in the Sprint and 1km events.
