Go West Cycle Fest criterium races set to rock West Rand

The GO WEST! Cycling Festival is back and the 2014 invitational event is set to attract South Africa’s top cycling talent for a series of four road racing criterium events through the beautiful streets of the West Rand District Municipality from 17-20 September 2014.

The invitational will attract Elite Men and Elite Women cyclists, with no entry fee being charged and the first 100 registered Elite team riders will be considered. The number of riders in the same kit will be limited to eight, but teams with academies, or “B” teams, can still enter their additional riders but in a different type of kit. The Go West Cycle Festival provides an opportunity for the provinces to send provincial “teams” to participate as well.

The Elite women’s race will take place on the final day only, on Saturday 20 September.

Fun rider entries will be accepted on the day for the 110km criterium on the fourth and final day only, on Saturday 20 September.

Race details:

  • Carletonville – Wednesday 17 September (17:30) – (1.48km circuit) 80km – Men Elite (2hrs of racing) – spectator friendly
  • Westonaria – Thursday 18 September (17:30) – (1.52km circuit) 80km – Men Elite (2hrs of racing)

  • Krugersdorp – Saturday 20 September (17:00) – (2.05km circuit) 110km racing – Men Elite and Women Elite (3.5 hours)

All teams / riders must confirm their entry 10 days prior to event, by 7 September 2014. The event is limited to 100 riders in total. Please send names and full racing license details to Prudence Pietersen at events@cyclingsa.com. Regret, no late entries will be considered.

The accumulating prize pool offers attractive prize money to competitors. In order for a competitor to be considered for the overall title, all four criterium events need to be completed. All the race events will be broadcast live via live streaming on http://www.streamit360.tv/.

This year’s third gathering of the GO WEST! Festival offers a two-week experience of sporting and cultural activities. The cycle race forms an integral part of the festival. For more info on the GO WEST! Festival, please visit http://www.gowestfest.co.za/.
