Past Recognition Awards Ceremony

Past Recognition Awards Ceremony

On 01 April 2023 Cycling South Africa hosted a past recognition awards ceremony at the Belville Velodrome, Cape Town.

The aim of the ceremony was recognition and reconciliation. Cycling South Africa wants to honour the achievements of riders during the 1960 -1980 era that due to political standings at the time did not receive the necessary praise.

Mr. Charles Beukes the honorary member of Cycling South Africa wrote: “Unique Cycling history was made Saturday at the Belville Velodrome during SA Track National championships when Cycling (arguably) became one of the first National Federations after rugby, to honour their heroes from the past who because of APARTHEID was denied the opportunity to gain national colours or participate internationally. A big thumbs up to the president Qondisa Ngwenya and his Cycling South Africa Team.”

A fantastic turn out saw invited guests re-connect with each other and re-live their racing memories. Multiple Road and Track Championship titles were achieved by these attendees.

The honorary national colours were presented by Cycling South Africa President Qondisa Ngwenya and Secretary General Somilanathi Thinga.

Mr Charles Beukes kindly provided us with information on the attendees to remember and celebrate the achievements and victories during the past years.
