UCI SELECTION PROCESS

National federations were ranked for men and women and allocated riders on a sliding scale based on the following:

  • Number of Zwift community members,
  • Size and quality of the elite level cycling Esport talent pool,
  • UCI Road rankings.

Following the UCI ranking system, South Africa was awarded two men and three women riders in the 2022 Championships. Many riders on the long-list made themselves unavailable due to their season preparations for the 2022 World Tour or other obligations.

The result was that the following riders were selected to represent South Africa:

Women: Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, S’annara Grove and Catherine Colyn.

Men: Brad Gouveris and Aaron Borril.

ZWIFT AFRICAN CONTINENTAL QUALIFIER

National Federations were able to qualify additional riders through the Continental Qualifiers held in November 2021. These qualifiers ensured that highly talented cycling esports athletes could get a shot at being on the start line of the World Championships.

The result was that the following riders qualified to represent South Africa:

Women: Courteney Webb.

Men: Gary Muller, James Barnes, Eddy Hoole and Pieter Avenant.
