Cycling South Africa is dedicated to advancing the skills and knowledge of our community through our coaching and mechanics courses. We are working hard in making sure that we upskill our coaches and we applaud everyone’s dedication and perseverance when parting in our capacity building programs . Each participant brought unique strengths and areas for growth, reflecting the complexity and dedication required in coaching. We commend their efforts and commitment to enhancing their knowledge.

Looking ahead, we’re optimistic about the future of cycling coaching and mechanics in South Africa. Currently, the UCI mechanics course and the UCI Level 1 coaching course are underway online. These courses provide invaluable opportunities for individuals aiming to deepen their understanding of bike mechanics and coaching methodologies. Topics covered include bike fitting, basic knowledge, tools, coaching sessions, season planning, and UCI regulations, offering comprehensive training for aspiring professionals in the cycling industry.

The mechanics course is an excellent introduction for those wishing to pursue a career as bike mechanics. Participants gain essential skills and knowledge, laying a strong foundation for future success. Upon completion, they can obtain their support license through the Cycling SA portal, marking a significant milestone in their professional journey.

Similarly, the Level 1 coaching course equips participants with the insights and competencies needed to excel as coaches. From understanding coaching methodologies to navigating UCI regulations, candidates undergo rigorous training to prepare for the demands of professional coaching. Requirements such as first aid certification, Cycling SA membership, police clearance, indemnity insurance, and adherence to a code of conduct underscore the importance of professionalism and safety in coaching.

Aspiring coaches must also demonstrate a commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments for their athletes, prioritizing their well-being. To ensure this, coaches are required to take a Safeguarding course and Police Clearance , integrating safeguarding principles into their practices. This step upholds the integrity of our sport and fosters positive experiences for all participants.

The popularity of these courses reflects the passion and enthusiasm within our community. Despite being oversubscribed, we are dedicated to accommodating as many aspiring coaches and mechanics as possible. While space limitations imposed by the UCI present challenges, we are committed to hosting more courses in the upcoming quarter to ensure that no one is left behind in their pursuit of excellence.

Cycling South Africa is excited about the future and remains committed to supporting the growth and development of our coaches and mechanics. Together, we can elevate the standards of our sport and continue to nurture the talent within our community.

End.
