Bike-jacked at gun point in Somerset West

This video clip highlights the urgency of not cycling alone. Further to this, the victim kept unbelievably calm throughout the 59-second ordeal.

Malcolm Fox, an avid cyclist from the Western Cape, was mountain biking on the trails at Ongegund, Somerset West on Saturday 31 May. He was promptly held up at gunpoint, and the thieves stole Malcolm's bicycle, mobile phone, car keys and Oakleys. Fox admits that he is fortunate that he was left alone and unharmed as the thieves fled the scene.

Fox had made his way down an unmarked section of the route when he missed the trail signage, and wandered approximately 400m to 800m off the track.

Fortunately, the attackers were not aware that Fox had a Go-Pro mounted to his helmet, which filmed the entire incident and has since led to the arrest of the three culprits. "The police have been superb, all three suspects have been arrested and I have received my bike and cellphone back already!" said Fox.
