From March 21st to 25th, 2024, Gqeberha basked in perfect weather as it played host to the South African Track Championships at the esteemed Westbourne Oval Velodrome. The atmosphere was electric, with riders showcasing thrilling performances and demonstrating their prowess on the track.
The event commenced with a memorable Lap of Honour, featuring some of our esteemed Track Legends, who were deeply honoured to be part of the occasion. Their presence added a touch of nostalgia and reverence to the proceedings, setting the stage for an unforgettable championship.
A total of 142 riders, spanning ages from 10 to an impressive 86, participated in the championships, reflecting the diverse and inclusive nature of the event. Notably, our 86-year-old contender astounded everyone by setting three new records, exemplifying the spirit of perseverance and determination that permeated throughout the competition.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the championships was the significant turnout in the U17 category, indicating a promising future for track cycling in South Africa. This burgeoning talent pool serves as a strong foundation for the sport to flourish in the years to come.

- Dates and Venue: Hosted by East Cape Cycling, the championships took place from March 21st to 25th, 2024, at the Westbourne Oval Velodrome in Gqeberha.
- Diverse Categories: Sprint and Endurance races were held across various distances and age categories, including Para-cyclists, Juniors, U/23, Elite, and a range of youth and veteran age groups up to 80+ for both men and women.
