O ’Keeffe shifts mindset ahead of BMX World Cup (SWE)

South African BMX superstar, Teagan O’Keeffe, is placing a strong focus on the upcoming UCI BMX Supercross World Cup No.3, which takes place at the Sibirien BMX Arena in Engelholm, Sweden, from 15-16 August 2015. This will be the first time in history that Sweden hosts a BMX World Cup event.

After her performance at the BMX World Championships in Zolder, Belgium last month, O’Keeffe felt temporarily disheartened. “I was really disappointed in myself after the World Champs – I made one small mistake, which saw me lose a position and I therefore didn't qualify through. I have put it behind me and went straight back to work, reset my goals, and regained my confidence,” she said.

Being the first time that Sweden is hosting a BMX World Cup, O’Keeffe feels that all of the riders will be in the same boat in terms of previous experience or advantage.

“It looks like a nice technical outdoor track so I am excited to ride it. It will be a slightly different experience because it’s nobody’s “home track” therefore there is no home-track advantage. We will be able to see who is actually the best on the track without a lot of training time beforehand – we all only get about two hours track time before we start racing,” she said.

The relatively new track, built in 2013 and supplemented this year with a Supercross 8-metre start hill, is no stranger to other BMX events, having previously hosted rounds of the European BMX Championships.
