CyclingSA and the Road Commission are excited to announce the riders selected for Team South Africa for the 2021 UCI World Road Championships in Flanders, Belgium, from 19 to 26 September.
We believe that this is a strong team across the categories with a combination of experienced World Tour campaigners and younger upcoming talent.
Only two riders per age category are able to compete in the Time Trial events, with these events taking place from 19 to 21 September and the Road Races taking place between 22 and 26 September.
After the disappointment of the 2020 World Championships with no Junior or U23 events included in Verona due to the coronavirus, the 2021 event affords aspiring athletes the opportunity to compete for the rainbow bands.
While Belgium is still under strict travel restrictions with South Africa currently on their “Red List”, we have been advised that travel regulations will be adjusted soon, ensuring an easier passage of travel for South African-based riders. CyclingSA is working with the UCI and is in regular contact with the Belgium embassy in South Africa to streamline travel arrangements for athletes and staff traveling from South Africa.
The CyclingSA Road Commission congratulates all of the riders selected and wishes them the very best as they finalise their preparations.
