About
The South African National Championships is the blue ribbon event for each cycling discipline and is held each year. The prestigious event crowns the National Champion in their chosen discipline, for their respective gender and age groups.
For 2020, the South African National Road Championships will be held for the Elites/Under 23’s, Veterans, Masters and Para-Cycling categories from 5-9 February at the Swadini Forever Resort in Mpumalanga.
*The Junior, Youth and younger categories will be held in a separate event later in the year.
Who can take part
All participants must have a Full Racing Licence issued by Cycling SA. The following categories of riders can participate in the 2020 SA Road National Championships:
Elite Men and Women;
Under 23 Men and Women: A cyclist who turns 19, 20, 21 or 22 years of age in a registration year;
Para-cycling categories
Veteran categories Men and Women

Route Description
Thursday, 6th February 2020
Start at the fountain in Swadini
Go straight.
For the 15 km categories, make a u-turn at the 7.5 km turning point
For the 20 km categories, make a u-turn at Moholoholo gate.
Finish at the fountain
Friday, 7th February 2020
Start at Blydevallei Canyon Packers (Gate 1), 7 km from Swadini
After 3.5 km turn left on the R40 towards Hoedspruit
After 15 km turn left on the R36 towards Ohrigstad
After 17 km after the bridge turn left on Jonkmanspruit
After 31.8 km turn right towards Swadini
Finish at fountain.
Friday, 7th February 2020 – Criterium
ONLY FOR UNDER 23 & ELITE MEN, VETERAN MEN 30 – 49

Saturday, 8th February 2020 – Road Race
Start at entrance of Swadini, a Forever Resort at the boom
After 100m turn left.
After 10.5 km turn left at T-junction onto R40 towards Hoedspruit
After 22km turn left at T-junction turn left onto R36 towards Orighstad
After 24km turn left after the bridge on Jonkmanspruit.
After 37km turn left at T-junction towards Klaserie.
After you last lap, turn right towards Swadini
Assure yourself of the laps and distance to be completed in your category
All riders falling 10% behind the bunch per lap, will be eliminated
