Ronnie Syfers, one of SACOS’ most renowned cyclists in the 1980s has passed on after a stroke. Three strokes some time back left him paralysed. He was a champion road cyclist for Thunderbird, the club he started in 1979 in Paarl for Cyclists who wouldn’t join up with the SA Cycling Federation at that stage and affiliated to the SA Cycling Board led by Ivan Williams then.
William Newman, the first black president of Cycling SA, was one of Ronnie’s strongest contenders in especially the TOUR DE BOLAND where Ronnie captained Boland against Newman and his WP troops. Certainly a true champion for non-racial sport and a leader per excellence.
He attended the SACOS. Cyclists reunion, arranged by Raybin Windvogel at Pniel last year.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
