Venue
The 2018 SA National XCO Championships will be held at the Happy Valley Conservancy in the City of Bloemfontein. The venue is easily accessible and in the heart of Bloemfontein, only 13km from the Bloemfontein Airport. The Happy Valley Conservancy is surrounded by a full range of accommodation facilities, with one of the best being Solo Gracia Guest House , only 1,4km from the venue.
Happy Valley Conservancy is situated in Brill Street between Harry Smith Street, Aliwal Street, Collins Road and First Avenue.
Places of Interest
Places of interest nearby include the Loch Logan Waterfront Mall, Mimosa Mall, Northridge Mall and Preller Walk where cyclists and supporters can visit for shopping or refreshments. Franklin Nature Reserve (Naval Hill – where the large statue of Nelson Mandela is situated) is also nearby. This nature reserve is one of the only Nature Reserves in the world to be situated within the perimeters of a city.
Other attractions include Cheetah Experience, Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Bagamoya Wildlife Estate and the Anglo Boer War Museum to name a few.
If there is a mechanical during practice, then we have some of the best Cycling Shops in South Africa, with Cycle World, Cyclotech and Enduro Planet just around the corner from the venue and will also be there to help at the venue on the 21st and 22nd of July.
Route
For the 2018 Nationals Champs course, we made a few small but important changes. The course was shortened from the 5,0km 2017 route, to 4,5km for 2018.
It features hand built single track with plenty of overtaking opportunities with two challenging climbs of 660m (50m ascent) and 350m (40m ascent), natural rock gardens, upgraded pump (flow) track, gap jumps, drop offs and two technical downhill’s.
This year’s course will have two technical and feed zones which will operate back to back.
Event
Food, drink and gourmet coffee will be available for purchase on both the Friday and Saturday during the event.
The event will take place in the middle of winter, so please take note that it will be cold, dry and dusty.
