The International Cycling Union (UCI) has sent a personal message of congratulations to Cycling South Africa upon hearing that Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio claimed the South African Sportswoman of the Year award at the recent 2015 SA Sport Awards, which was celebrated at a gala event in Mangaung, Free State, on Sunday 22 November 2015.
UCI President, Mr Brian Cookson, wrote to Cycling SA President, Mr William Newman: “I would like to pass on my sincere congratulations to Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio on being named South African Sportswoman of the Year, as well as finishing in the top ten in the UCI rankings – a first for a South African cyclist. What a wonderful achievement for her personally, and for South African cycling.
“This kind of recognition is highly motivating and we wish Ashleigh and all the other talented South African riders great success for the coming Olympic year 2016.”
Cycling South Africa was proud to hear that nine cyclists had been nominated for this year’s ’Sport Awards.
In addition to Ashleigh’s award, the National Federation would also like to acknowledge Songezo Jim and Team MTN-Qhubeka on receiving the Minister’s Award for Excellence.
